Review: Greensboro Beef Jerky Outlet - Sweet-n-Hot Smoked Beef Jerky

The Backstory: The Beef Jerky Outlet story is pretty simple really. Take the highest quality USDA approved jerky you can find and build a store around it. Make it in small batches so it will always be fresh. Fill the store with so many varieties and flavors of “made in the good old USA” jerky that folks will be amazed. Oh yeah, make the experience fun too. Give out lots of free samples so guests will not HOPE they like their choice . . . they will KNOW they LOVE it! Fill in any extra space with some of the best popcorn's, cheeses, peanut butters (the list goes on and on) and even throw in some bug suckers . . . just for fun. The simple idea is - everyday and in all ways create an atmosphere that jerky lovers and their families can come into and relax. If you see some of our guests kind of dancing around the store while sampling some truly great jerky you’ll get what we mean. (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: Old School resealable clear plastic bag. The company's logo screams, "Beef Jerky Here!"

The Look: Chunks and strips of vibrant red colored meat. There was barely any intermuscular fat present.

The Smell:  Right off the bat, my sniffer picked up the essence of real smoke and brown sugar.

The Feel:  The beef is fairly tender, with no stickiness present.

The Taste: Greensboro Beef Jerky Outlet's 'Sweet-n-Hot Smoked Beef Jerky' variety, is a superb example of sweet and spicy jerky done right. The strips and chunks of beef release a fun combo of sugar and peppers on the first bite. Each flavor is wonderfully balanced and ultimately delicious. The peppers will give you a medium heat rush, which we feel is always awesome.

But, the folks at the 'Outlet' didn't stop there. At the tail end of each chew, a wave of true smoky goodness sends your taste buds off wanting to eat more. This is a jerky that you can easily finish off a bag of in minutes. We sure did!

OVERALL RATING: 5 out of 5 = Excellent!

Review: Golden Island Jerky Company - Chili Lime Beef Jerky

The Backstory: Our story is three generations old and begins with two simple facts: our family has always loved food. And, our family has always strived for perfection. These two principles sparked an idea for a business that valued wholesome ingredients and making a quality product we could be proud of. (Excerpt From Company Website

The Package: Highly stylized and clean design. The featured variety, will pop out to any consumer shopping for some jerky.

The Look: Chunks of tan colored meat, which are covered in a thin layer of spices. A small amount of intermuscular fat was spotted.

The Smell:  The unmistakable scents of garlic, lime and chili peppers, presented themselves as soon as the bag was opened.

The Feel:  The beef is fairly tender, with no stickiness present.

The Taste: Golden Island Jerky Company's 'Chili Lime Beef Jerky' variety, is a zesty addition to this California based jerky makers brand line. The easy to chew chunks of meat, simultaneously released the flavors of garlic and tart lime. The very next taste sensation was salt, mixed with a quick burst of sweetness from sugar. In the end, the chili peppers made their presence felt with a hint of heat.

Review: People's Choice Beef Jerky - Tasting Kitchen Orange Honey Teriyaki

The Backstory: One of the more delicious parts of our job is the recipe testing that goes on in the People’s Choice Tasting Kitchen. We are always searching for new flavors from around the world and we want to bring those special flavors directly to you. So every few months, we will offer one of our limited-edition, small batch flavors. Our goal is to deliver a sophisticated snacking experience that celebrates new ingredients while remaining true to our handmade tradition. (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: The clear non-resealable package features an earthy/rustic label. The consumer can easily tell exactly what they are buying at first glance, as the jerky is fully on display.

The Look: Dark colored beef chunks, with a small level of intermuscular fat present.

The Smell:  A dynamite bouquet of fresh orange zest and sweet honey, tickled the nostrils.

The Feel:  The jerky meat is quite tender, with a large amount of pleasant stickiness present.

The Taste: People's Choice Beef Jerky's 'Tasting Kitchen - Orange Honey Teriyaki' is exactly what you want in a three flavor hybrid jerky. The first bite of the super tender meat, unleashes a taste tornado of the freshest orange paired with tangy/sweet honey. Neither of these typically strong flavors overpower each other, or come off as too sweet. The same thing can be said when the teriyaki kicks in. The balance is just right and outstanding. I feel a lot of this is due to the meat itself, providing just the right level of salt to create a savory equilibrium.

Review: Ayoba-Yo - Traditional Biltong

The Backstory: If you were born in South Africa it is most likely that you cut your teeth on a stick of biltong. This is certainly true of every one of the van Blommestein Family.  It is in our blood, along with the sounds, smells, colors and vibrancy of South Africa. Understandable then that we would miss biltong, boerewors, and droewors so much. We have lived in the US for almost 15 years now and have found replacements for, or are used to living without most of the things we love, however, we were not able to live without our beloved meats.

So, we put our South African resourcefulness and creativity to work, dusted off the family recipe book, and got to work making our own biltong, boerewors and droĆ«wors. We subjected our friends and family to taste-testing and after some small tweaking of the recipes, we ended up with the deliciousness that you can experience today. It is a family affair and everyone pitches in at some level of labor or love to get our meat into your belly. We are so glad you are visiting our website and would love for you to try our products. We welcome your suggestions and comments but we have no doubt that after your first bite, you'll be saying That's Ayoba-Yo!. Enjoy shopping with us and remember we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: Mostly clear, resealable plastic package. The label is rich with vibrant color, as it perfectly details the unique product within.

The Look: Light brown/tan colored, medium sized cuts of Biltong. There is a small amount of lovely fat on the exterior.

The Smell: Natural beef with notes of onion and vinegar.

The Feel: The meat is extremely tender, with trace amounts of naturally occurring oils.

The Taste: Ayoba-Yo's 'Traditional Biltong', is yet another very good example why Biltong often rivals Beef Jerky. Yes, we can admit that! The medium sized, thin cuts of lightly seasoned beef melt in your mouth upon chewing. This is due to a fine layer of fat. Did we forget to mention how much we love tasty fat?

The rest of the chew releases fun flavor bursts of: brown sugar, garlic, onion and some vinegar. I would easily put this Biltong out for game day to pair with some light beers.

Review: JerkyPro Beef Jerky - Original Flavor

The Backstory: The packing facility that hosts all JerkyPro products is located in Rexburg, ID and  was founded in 1987.  The original operating facility consisted of 2500 square feet with 4 employees and was ran by a dedicated husband and wife team. The first year in operation they processed approximately 540 beef, 540 hogs and 190 deer. The business continued to grow with additions in 1991 and 2001.

A second USDA-licensed facility next door to the original packing facility and was devoted exclusively to beef jerky production. The facility was 4000 square feet and included a cooler, freezer, processing room, packaging room and smoke house.

The latest addition came in 2012 with 8000 more square feet and included a freezer, cooler, 2 packaging rooms, warehouse, loading dock, the retail room and a full deli and sandwich shop.

Today their facility has 20,000 square feet of operating space and employees 27 people. They process approximately 1077 beef, 1171 hogs, 29 sheep and 963 deer per year. In addition, they process and package 1200 lbs. of Jerky, 4000 lbs. of snack sticks, 2000 lbs. of bacon and 2500-3000 lbs. of pork products per week.

We have gained a notable reputation for our award winning products, clean facility, and consistent-quality processing.

JerkyPro was officially established late 2015 by military/paramilitary veterans who pride themselves in the structuring of the business.  We do not promote or prefer one target audience over another. We are actively engaged in  xGames, eSports, MMA, competitive motorsports, and military efforts. Bottom line we cater to  anyone and everyone that loves JERKY!

In early 2016 JerkyPro, LLC became offical in the state of Ohio.  We are actively in talks with undisclosed retailers and vendors in order to expand the JerkyPro brand across the U.S. Keep up to date as we are excited to make some big announcements soon! (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: The company's mascot is a gigantic red, muscle bound bull. The hardcore appearance of the mascot, provides a terrific way to catch the customers eye. It just screams: EAT BEEF JERKY! The product is in a r
esealable plastic bag.

The Look: Light brown colored chunks/segments of beef. Seasoning can be spotted on the exterior.

The Smell: My first whiff caught notes of black pepper and honey.

The Feel: The jerky is extremely tender and sticky when held.

The Taste: JerkyPro Beef Jerky's 'Original Flavor,' is a seriously excellent example of  an original-style jerky that far exceeds its classification. First off, the beef is super tender which provides the eater with a highly enjoyable mouth feel. This tenderness releases a flavor one-two punch of: sweet honey, tart apple and lemon juice and top quality peppered beef. We highly recommend this jerky for intense video game playing sessions, outdoor actives or wherever the day takes you.

Review: Crockett Creek Beef Jerky - Legendary BBQ Flavor

The Backstory: Crockett Creek is a friendly small town company with a big heart and plenty of Southern goodness to share.  Our signature beef jerky was originally perfected in our very own kitchen, which is the heart of our family’s hospitality.  As a family favorite, we honored and delighted many guests over the years with our unique jerky recipes full of flavor and deliciousness.  We got so many compliments, that we decided to share our wonderful jerky not only with our family and friends, but with our Southern neighbors and the rest of the country as well.  So, in 1994 we opened up shop in the lovely, historic Knoxville, Tennessee.

Crockett Creek offers tasty jerky in several varieties that are uniquely flavorful and deeply satisfying.  But that’s not all.  We also have an excellent selection of tasty marinades, super smokin’ spice mixes, and many other delicious seasonings that the whole family will enjoy. Many of our customers come back time and again, so much so that they’ve become a part of the Crockett Creek family. (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: The package is resealable (zipper pouch), with all the ingredients and the variety type clearly spelled out on the front label.

The Look: Large dark colored chunk/segments of BBQ marinated and seasoned beef. Not much intermuscular fat could be spotted.

The Smell: The true aroma's of a molasses and brown sugar based BBQ sauce, were wafted in immediately after the bag was opened.

The Feel: The jerky is moderately tender and only slightly sticky when held.

The Taste: Crockett Creek Beef Jerky's 'Legendary BBQ Flavor,' is a very good example of a BBQ sauce-centric jerky done very well. The meat is well marinated in what I would call a traditional St. Louis style sauce. We were easily able to spot the sweet molasses and brown sugar, as a prime flavor producer. It is reminiscent of the thick sauce that I love to dip smoked meats into.

At the tail end of each chew, the tangy taste sensations of garlic and pepper helped to round it all out providing a great deal of character. It would have been great if this jerky was a tad more tender. But, all in all this is a very good product.

Review: Lorissa's Kitchen - Korean Barbeque Premium Steak Strips

The Backstory: We (Lorissa's Kitchen) only work with farmers as committed to animal well-being as we are to amazing flavor. We only source 100% grass-fed beef. And our chickens are American Humane Certified, meaning they’re antibiotic-free and raised without added growth hormones.

No two palates are alike. That’s why we offer four unique recipes, each made using carefully selected ingredients and prepared so that every bite is as flavorful as possible. (Excerpt From Company Website)

The Package: Modern, resealable bag. A vibrant picture of the jerky variety and its ingredients, provide a warm down home feeling.

The Look: Dark purple colored meat chunks and strips.
From the color you can tell the marinade did its job. There are also small bits of seasoning on the exterior.

The Smell: Rich aroma's of soy sauce, onion and brown sugar.

The Feel: The jerky steak strips are moderately tender. A slight level of stickiness was present.

The Taste: Lorissa's Kitchen's 'Korean Barbeque Premium Steak Strips,' provided us with a deliciously complex and robust flavor profile. Each steak strip packs a wallop of Korean-inspired marinade into each bite. The first two taste sensations were that of brown sugar and onion. They set the tone for an even balance of sweet meets tangy with a welcome helping of savory as well. In addition, the natural high-quality meat and salt from soy sauce, yielded delightful earthy notes.
